Bla bla bla: Recap 2012

I never watched much tv in my life… I didn’t like it very much, and preferred reading… So when I first started doing the Bla Bla Bla, 2 years ago, the concept of talk show, late night show, live interviews was pretty unknown to me. Of course, I had done plenty of videos before, more than I can remember, and I had also hosted the Confessional, alongside Kanu, that was kind of the same thing, but that wasn’t live. A live show… How was I going to deal with this? 2011 has been a very stressful year! But 2012 was much better. I was used to the Bla Bla Bla, and hosting them was much more natural for me. It wasn’t about “I need to make sure I don’t mess things up” anymore, but about “I am so excited to share this and that with our people and to know what their reaction will be!”…

I don’t know how it goes when you go to a live show, when you’re a guest on David Letterman or Jay Leno or anything… But somehow, there’s no secret: the host asks questions, the guests answer them. The host has certain things he wants to ask, he’s ready, and most of the time, the guests already know of them, so they can come up with the answer they want, and aren’t taken aback. Both the interviewer and the interviewee know what’s going to happen.

But the Bla Bla Bla is not like this. Yes, we spend around 3 weeks getting ready for it, we know what we’re going to talk about, we know the topics, we know the questions, but we never know the answers. Never. And I mean it.

I cannot remember how many times I was on the edge of bursting into laughter because of a comment Sef said, but couldn’t, and I was desperately hoping for the next video to play so I could release all of the emotion… I can’t remember how many times I almost panicked because I had lost control of the band members, this happened in a show that was a very important one where we had no time to lose or else it would end up being a 2 hour show (see, I lost control pretty much for every edition… lol)

But this is what I like best about the show… You never know what is going to happen. Never. Though I should have a pretty good idea of how the show should go before it even starts, I learned that reality was pretty different from it… You need to expect the unexpected, and truly enjoy it!
