Miss Isabel: Amy Grant – Sleigh Ride

Marjo – Wham! – Last Christmas
Juliette: Frank Sinatra – Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Val: John Lennon – Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

Momoka: Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You
Chris: Bing Crosby & Nat King Cole ‎– White Christmas
Mary: She & Him – I’ll Be Home For Christmas
Sandra: Celine Dion – O Holy Night
Chuck: Band Aid – Do They Know It’s Christmas

After seeing Alex’s choice, I had no other option but to ask him “why?”… Here’s his answer!

After hearing it, you’ll probably have the same reaction my parents (and all my relatives) had when the song started in our big Christmas family party. My grand-mother on my mother’s side was wondering why the song never mentioned baby Jesus, Christmas or any of the usual celebration elements that are snow, jingle bells or Santa Claus. I told her it was because some people just don’t see the world as a shopping mall filled with crap to buy for people you don’t really paid much attention to all year long. She said it was true and said it was a good song… lol! But my father did have a “word” with me concerning my Christmas political statement and made sure it wouldn’t become a family editorial about social/economical world class division. I grew up in a financially disadvantaged environment, so we knew all too well the reality of surviving and being ostracized by the glorious commercialization of holidays. My dad was kinda mad, but we did listen to the whole song. So that was my favorite Christmas statement.

Interesting note: My grand-mother stopped offering me comic books after that Christmas. She bought me a Michael Jackson album the year after, because she said that based on the previous Christmas (the Sex Pistols song incident), now she knew that I loved music. My father kept laughing after seeing my face opening the present… lol! Especially when one of my cousins who was living far away in the country side asked me if it was a punk album… Oh Lord… lol!
